This converter deliberately covers a narrow interoperability surface that can be proven without mutating the PS2 filesystem. Standard card images can be normalized from physical pages with spare areas to contiguous data pages, and existing save directories can be packaged as EMS PSU. PSU containers can be inspected and their regular files extracted. More invasive operations such as card insertion, allocation-table edits, ECC generation, proprietary compressed save archives, and resigning remain outside the verified Phase 34 boundary.

Standard 8 MiB PS2 card images in data-only or complete 528-byte-page form, plus uncompressed EMS .psu single-save containers whose directory and payload structure validates.
Input constraints
Card inputs must satisfy the same strict standard 8 MiB filesystem checks as the PS2 Memory Card Viewer. EMS PSU input must contain a save-directory entry, valid . and .. entries, the declared number of regular-file entries, complete file payloads padded to 1024-byte boundaries, and no undeclared trailing bytes.
Known limitations
Phase 34 does not insert PSU files back into a card, rewrite FAT data, regenerate ECC, repair cards, or convert MAX Drive, CodeBreaker CBS, SharkPort SPS, nPort NPO, PlayStation PSV, emulator save states, or encrypted/game-specific payloads. Renaming an unsupported file is not conversion.
Output / result
A normalized 8,388,608-byte .ps2 data image, an EMS .psu export for a verified card save directory, or an individual file extracted from a validated EMS PSU container.

Phase 36 reads a selected file only after explicit local file selection. Parsing, inspection, normalization, extraction, and supported conversions run in the browser. The emulator-retro runtime contains no fetch, XMLHttpRequest, WebSocket, or sendBeacon calls. The shared file ceiling is 16 MiB, with stricter format-specific limits where appropriate.

When a file is rejected, do not force it.
A rejection can indicate an unsupported size, format, version, platform, or byte sequence. Preserve the original and correct the input instead of bypassing validation.
Re-check the documented input type and browser size limit before retrying.
A generic converter does not imply support for every game-specific container, signing scheme, or serialization format.
Return to the untouched source instead of repeatedly processing a damaged or partially transformed file.
Known Tool issues
Unsupported archive/save formats are rejected rather than guessed. PSU export is disabled for directories containing nested directories. If a target emulator rejects an exported save, preserve the original and verify that the emulator actually supports EMS PSU import.
